The Government of Canada is revamping the Medical Marijuana access program in Canada, scrapping the current arrangement of designated growers and patients growing their own to a future ‘free-market’ controlled by government licensed industrial producers. With an estimated $1.3 billion market for medical marijauna serving 450,000 Canadians within the next 10 years it’s no wonder there’s over 150 applicants vying for the potentially lucrative licenses (CBC, Canadian Press).
On September 23rd 2013 Health Canada awarded the first production licenses for the Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations to Saskatchewan based partnered companies:
