The season of Spring was a time of renewal for our faith in celebrities that use and promote cannabis. With more mainstream attention than ever it was hard to narrow down three nominees, but Dopechef went for it so here are the nominations:
Hip Hop superstar Wiz Khalifa grabbed some weed related headlines this season. Wiz teamed up with RAW rolling papers to announce a new line of marijuana-related products. He joined with Snoop Dogg for the pot-themed ‘Wellness Retreat’ and launched his own ‘Under the Influence’ tour for the Summer. Wiz also shared a historic joint with Drake during a live show (a first for Drake during a performance). On May 25th Wiz tweeted a pic from jail with the caption “Jail selfie.” after getting arrested in a Texas airport for possession of 0.5 grams of leafy green.
Hollywood actress and comedian Whoopi Goldberg wrote her own personal love story to her favorite vaporizer. Published on The Cannabist, Whoopi describes using medical marijuana to treat her glaucoma, “I named her Sippy because I take tiny, little sips — sassy sips, even — from her. And with each sip comes relief — from pressure, pain, stress, discomfort.” Whoopi even revealed her vape pen is packed with an indica-dominant Platinum OG kush strain.
Toronto’s own cannabis champion Matt Mernagh has been rollin’ in the spotlight as host of the massive 420 smoke out at Dundas Square, leader during the Global Marijuana March, and his own show weekly show at Vapor Central. No stranger to media attention Matt ramped it up in this Spring with a feature story on dabbing in NOW magazine’s Cannabis Special issue, plus he’s running for local politics with a grassroots campaign for Mayor of Toronto and talk of a possible run for Ward 20 city councillor. Matt even starred in a segment at the CHAMPS Expo this year for Dopechef Media featured on Pot TV.
